Treyarch president Mark Lamia has confirmed they're sticking with dedicated servers.

"I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don't see any reason not to see them unless... well, I just don't see any reason not to," Lamia said to PC Zone magazine (via CVG). "It seems people like them and we're excited about what we're doing right now."

Meanwhile, CVG also reports that a new Black Ops preview in the Official Xbox Magazine reveals the game won't just have vehicles the player rides in, but can control entirely. This apparently includes the SR-71 Blackbird we've previously heard about (and which was previously unclear whether it was entirely in the player's control or not), as well as helicopters that the mag "stresses" are fully controllable, which will even provide helicopter-vs-hellicopter air battles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is launching on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on November 9.

The Battlefield Blog announced that Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 players will be getting a new gamemode called Onslaught. In short, the new mode appears to be 4 squad members vs AI gamemode.

Battlefiled: Bad Company 2 has officially exceeded 5 million units sold world wide. Thanks to everyone who has supported Battlefield and bought a copy. In other good news we can officially announce Onslaught mode coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Onslaught is bringing co-op gameplay to Battlefield for the first time on console. The new game mode puts you and up to three friends against the enemy on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes and Nelson Bay – redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects. Each map has a dedicated gameplay focus, requiring different levels of teamwork in order to complete the objectives against an onslaught of enemy AI. Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault. Players can compete in squads and check individual progress via the dedicated Onslaught leaderboards.

Senior Producer Patrick Bach had these few words to say about Onslaught mode “We want to consistently support the fans playing the game with new ways to get into multiplayer and also challenge the elite players with new experiences to improve their performance online. Effective squad play is the key to success in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer and this new mode will provide players with a dedicated environment to test their team skills and rank against the competition.”

Onslaught mode will be available on Xbox Live and onon the PlayStation Network.

"The problem we have on PC is that all our servers are dedicated with providers. Changing a server from Conquest 32 players to Onslaught 4 players cuts out 28 player slots from the total amount available. This could have a dramatic affect on the PC online environment if enough servers changed to Onslaught.

We aren't ruling out Onslaught on PC but at this time we are researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don't have Onslaught or their own server to run it on."

In an exclusive preview (for USATODAY) of one level, game developer Treyarch wanted to demonstrate "the game is epic in scope," says studio head Mark Lamia.

"Beyond the single-player story, the game will have a cooperative mode for two to four players and an online multiplayer mode."

"The modified military crossbow seen in the preview level, Lamia says, "is a great example of how elite black ops teams were permitted to equip themselves for whatever job they had at hand, which means that they could get a hold of anything and modify it any way they wanted to accomplish their missions objectives. The specific crossbow in the game is based off the design of a military grade crossbow."
